Mia Pensa, Studio Images 2025
 Mia Pensa in her studio

Don’t miss Australian artist Mia Pensa’s first solo exhibition, “here for awhile” an exploration of rhythm, repetition, and transformation.

Mia Pensa explores the quiet persistence of habit and the transformative power of repetition through a series of complex, textural paintings. The exhibition “here for awhile” reflects Pensa’s sustained investigation into time, materiality, and the visual rhythm that emerges from her study of pattern, movement, and the living systems of nature.

In “here for awhile,” time becomes both subject and medium. Each painting bears traces of prolonged attention. A vital aspect of Pensa’s new works lies in her color palette: the jungle is rendered harmless, and the tiger - a recurring motif throughout her practice - becomes filled with calm and silence.

Through her sustained rhythm and patterned compositions, Pensa creates a language of care, sharpening the viewer’s awareness of repetition and gesture. She reveals how remaining -being here for a while - can itself be a form of movement. Her works invite viewers to linger, to rest within the pause, and to sense the subtle transformations that unfold within the quiet jungle.

Autumn selection

This autumn, the Project Room and Kitchen present a curated selection of works by both new and established artists. We are pleased to highlight Emma Larsson, Daniel M. Thurau, and Hunt Slonem, who are all featured in the Autumn Selection.
EMMA LARSSON, UNTITLED II, 2025
Emma Larsson

Emma Larsson is a visual artist born in Sweden in 1977. Since her teenage years, she had the chance to have her own art studio where she could create and express herself freely. She now lives and works in Stockholm. Even though she went to art school for a few years, between drawing, painting, and sculpting, she considers herself self-taught, an outsider, experimenting with all kinds of materials. Her works can be described as poetic, playful, contemplative, intuitive and intriguing. She finds most of her inspiration in nature's shapes, colors, and patterns, leading to abstract and moving forms in her paintings.

In the last few years, Larsson gained exposure and interest from all over the world including those of art critics and renowned art collectors, such as the Frederick Weisman Art Foundation in Los Angeles. So far her works have been part of gallery exhibitions and art fairs in Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Luxemburg, UK, France, USA, Japan, and South Korea.

DANIEL M THURAU, NO TIME FOR BANANAS, 2025
Daniel M Thurau

Born in Köthen/ Anhalt in 1973, Daniel M Thurau initially studied law before finally deciding to pursue art in 1998 when he founded the kunstgesellschaft eiland with the two painters Peter and Torsten Ruehle. From 2008-2009 he studied drawing at Norwich University College of the Arts, then went to the HFBK Hamburg and studied painting with Werner Büttner and Jutta Koether from 2010-2013.

His paintings are strongly influenced by German Expressionism, he uses bold colors that create an excessive, artificial reality with exaggerated and sometimes very obviously grotesque forms. The mainly figurative works contain elements that refer to comic-like figures.

Hunt Slonem, Black Diamond Dust Trail, 2023
Hunt Slonem

Hunt Slonem (b. 1951, Maine, US) graduated with a degree in painting and art history from Tulane University in New Orleans, entered the New York art scene in the mid-1970s and had his first solo show at the Fischbach Gallery in 1977. Since then, he has won immense acclaim, and his work is now featured in top museum collections around the world.

His oil paintings and sculptural works depict the beauty and playfulness of animals, consisting of 3 main series: Bunnies, Birds and Butterflies. With expressive and bold strokes of viscous paint, he captures the essence of the animal with a few confident flicks of the brush, creating paintings that are reminiscent of Abstract Expressionism, yet with an optimism and skill in stylization that is uniquely his own. Merely depicting the subject is not enough for Hunt Slonem. Often, he makes the surface of the painting play a vital role in the final look of the work by hatching it with the end of his brush – or by covering it with real diamond dust, creating a sparkling and ever-changing surface.
