INTRODUCING SAMMY BINKOW

Sammy Binkow's artistic practice encompasses painting, sculpture and textile, with a strong emphasis on highly symbolic and recurring themes. Binkow's artistic language is distinctive, combining textual elements and whimsical figuration within map-like compositions. The artist draws significant inspiration from the culture, imagery, and attitude of Southern California. Through the mediums of sculpture, collage, painting, illustration, animation, and even clothing, Binkow examines the values of contemporary culture and delves into the exploration of millennial society.

In his recent sculptural works, Binkow has expanded his aesthetic exploration to include the human form and heartfelt portrayals of love and acceptance. These wall sculptures incorporate handwritten text, reminiscent of the expressive scribes found in outsider art and bathroom stall graffiti. As multiple bodies intertwine within these sculptures, it becomes apparent that Binkow is fascinated by the nuances of differentiation—how language, text, and people possess subtle and infinite variations.

Sam Binkow was born, raised, and currently works in the San Fernando Valley. He was raised by a game show-producing father and an art-teaching mother. Watching his family take ideas from the breakfast table and turn them into polished television productions sparked Binkow’s creative instinct at a young age. His works were shown in LA, Milan, Miami among others. The artist's prints have even been featured as costumes for musicians such as Post Malone and Portugal. The Man.

You can see his wall sculptures among other great artworks at SUMMERTIME'23 THE ANNUAL GROUP SHOW at Bredgade 75. The exhibition can be seen until August 18th, 2023. Please note that the gallery will be closed for summer holidays between July 16 - Aug. 2.
